go.yourapp.com, instead of appstack.link. People see your brand in the link, and your links are not affected if an ad network flags a shared domain. Tracking, attribution and redirection work exactly the same.
Custom domains work with standard links and with ad network links for every ad network except Google Ads.
Before you start
- You need access to the DNS settings of your domain.
- Use a subdomain, for example
go.yourapp.comorlinks.yourapp.com, rather than your root domain, so your website stays untouched.
Set up a custom domain
1
Add your domain in Appstack
In the Appstack console, go to the Links page and open the custom domain settings in the top right corner. Fill in the two fields: the subdomain you want to use and your DNS provider. The domain then shows a pending status.
2
Add the DNS record at your domain host
This step happens outside Appstack. Go to the provider that hosts your domain (for example Cloudflare, Route 53, OVH or GoDaddy) and create the record shown in the console:
If your provider offers proxying, such as Cloudflare’s orange cloud, set the record to DNS only. Proxying blocks the automatic certificate and degrades click attribution.
3
Wait for validation
Once the record propagates, Appstack detects it and issues the HTTPS certificate automatically. You never need to provide a certificate. The domain stops showing a pending status, usually within a few minutes and occasionally up to an hour.
4
Create your links
Once the domain is validated, create your links. New links use your custom domain.
Example
An ad network link on a custom domain looks like this:Troubleshooting
- The domain stays pending. The CNAME record is missing, has a typo, or has not propagated yet. Check it with
dig +short CNAME go.yourapp.com. The expected output iscustom.appstack.link.. Propagation usually takes minutes but can take up to 24 to 48 hours. - The browser shows a certificate error right after setup. The certificate is still being issued. It resolves itself within the hour once DNS points to Appstack.
- The CNAME is correct but the domain never validates. If your domain uses CAA records, Google’s certificate authority must be allowed. Add
yourapp.com. CAA 0 issue "pki.goog"alongside your existing CAA records. - You created links before the domain was validated. Create them again once the domain shows as validated.
- You run Google Ads. Custom domains are not available for Google Ads links yet. Keep using the default Appstack link for Google Ads.
Limits
- A domain belongs to one organization and cannot be registered twice.
- Only links from projects in the organization that registered the domain work on it.
- You can register several domains and remove one at any time. Removing a domain stops it from serving links immediately.
